What Happens To Your Car After it’s Towed By a Wrecker?
Ever wondered what actually happens to your old car once it's driven away on the back of a tow truck? At Fast Auto Car Removal, our Sunshine facility follows a detailed eco-responsible dismantling process designed to recover maximum value and minimise environmental impact.
Stage 1: Vehicle assessment
- On arrival at our Sunshine facility, each car is catalogued — VIN recorded, condition noted, and marketable parts identified.
Stage 2: Fluid removal and hazardous material handling
- All fluids are drained before dismantling: engine oil, transmission fluid, coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid and fuel.
- These are disposed of safely under EPA Victoria guidelines — never poured down drains or left to contaminate soil.
- Refrigerants from air conditioning systems are recovered using specialist equipment.
Stage 3: Parts salvage
- Usable parts are removed: engines, gearboxes, alternators, starters, doors, bonnets, bumpers, wheels and tyres, lights and glass.
- These are cleaned, tested and listed for resale as quality second-hand parts — affordable alternatives to new OEM parts for other vehicle owners.
Stage 4: Metal recycling
- Once usable parts are removed, the car body is crushed and shredded.
- Ferrous and non-ferrous metals (steel, aluminium, copper) are separated and sent to metal recyclers.
- Up to 80% of a vehicle’s weight is recyclable metal.
